This coming December 29, MCDUFFTOURS will be embarking on a journey to the other side of the world to experience the gardens and scenery of New Zealand.  This remarkable country, consisting almost entirely of two large islands, is home to some of the most scenic areas on earth.  It’s also home to a forgiving climate that allows an incredible palate of plants to find their way into gardens all across the country.

The dates are December 29, 2017 to January 13, 2018 and the cost is $6190 per person (double occupancy).  This cost includes airfare on Air New Zealand from Houston, Texas to New Zealand and return.

Our journey to New Zealand begins on the North Island, arriving in time to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Auckland.  After visiting several gardens nearby, we travel to Rotorua to see the Maori culture up close.  Just outside of Rotorua are geysers and bubbling mud—both are signs of our proximity to the Pacific Ring of Fire.

We then fly to Christchurch on the South Island, to find fabulous private gardens and unbelievable scenic wonders.  We’re in Queenstown long enough to understand why it’s called the ‘Adventure Capital of the Worl,.’ and there’s even time for jetboat rides and bungy jumping if you’re up for it!

The awe-inspiring peaks of Mt Cook—part of the Southern Alps—along with our day-cruise on Doubtful Sound, add to our scenic repertoire for the trip.  Few other countries can match the variety of scenic wonders that is found in New Zealand.

But the gardens are just as impressive—as is the wine!  We stop at a couple of great wineries along our route.

Here are some highlights of our tour:

Ayrlies Garden - Ohinetahi Garden - Auckland Botanic - Hamilton Gardens
Dunedin Botanic - Larnach Castle - Christchurch Botanic - Broadfield Estates
Frensham Gardens – Mona Vale Gardens - Albatross Colony - Penguin Place
Raikaia Gorge - Mt. Cook and the Southern Alps - Day-cruise on Doubtful Sound
